Threatened Grasslands Species Programme
Botha's Lark Project
Most recently we have added the Botha’s Lark to our list of target species, this is a local endemic and is locally and globally Endangered. This species has a very small distribution in southern Mpumalanga and north eastern Free State and recent research has suggested that this will be the most cost effective bird species on the planet to implement conservation action for. This of course is very theoretical but provide motivation for the work that we are doing. Very little is known about the specie and its distribution is inferred at best in the latest local red-list. We are actively working to increase our understanding of this species distribution, population size and threats, and to work with priority landowners to secure key habitat for the species.
