Western Leopard Toad Roadkill Mitigation Project

In 1998 the Western Leopard Toad (Amietophrynus pantherinus) was distinguished from its less colourful cousin the Eastern Leopard Toad (Amietophrynus pardalis). The WL toad is a coastal toad found along the southern Cape coastline of South Africa in sand fynbos stretches. Due to the desirability of this land for human habitation, the numbers of the WL toads have declined drastically in recent years. The map below shows the range of its current habitat.
