BACKGROUND
In recent years, the urgency to address biodiversity loss and its direct and indirect impact on human livelihoods, climate resilience, and economic stability has become increasingly evident. Recognising this, the National Biodiversity and Business Network (NBBN) at the Endangered Wildlife Trust has been working with South African businesses to integrate biodiversity considerations into their operations and align their practices with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Throughout 2024, our Business Advisory Group (BAG) meetings have created a foundation for dialogue and collaboration between the corporate sector, government, and conservation stakeholders. This event serves as a culmination of the insights gathered from these meetings and aims to extend the conversation to include broader society. We will bring together representatives from academia, NGOs, youth groups, women’s organizations, and community leaders to discuss how the business sector can meaningfully contribute to biodiversity conservation in ways that also support gender equality, community well-being, and sustainable development.
