Conservation Planning and Science Unit

Internship

The role of the Conservation Science Intern is to provide scientific and technical support to the Mammal Red List coordinator in completing the 2024 Mammal Red List Revision for South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho, and to a lesser extent, other science-related tasks within the Conservation Planning and Science Unit (CPSU). The intern will receive training and experience in conducting and reviewing Red List assessments, as well as in Green Status assessments of species. This position is based at our Head Office in Midrand, although remote candidates will be considered. The intern will also gain training and experience in providing scientific support to our various field conservation programmes.

Field Officer: KwaZulu Natal Vacancy

The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is one of the largest biodiversity conservation organisations in southern Africa, with a rich portfolio of projects and programmes across the region. One of the programmes, the Threatened Amphibian Program (TAP) focusses on reducing threats to priority amphibian and reptile species to safeguard them into the future. A key component of this is undertaking research to monitor herpetofauna to identify important habitat areas, quantify threats, and inform conservation actions. One of our focus areas for this work is in Durban where we are working to secure important habitat areas, monitor key species within these habitats, and galvanize stakeholders to focus these conservation objectives.

African Crane Conservation Programme

Drakensberg Field Officer (full-time)

The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is one of the most prominent Biodiversity Conservation NGOs in South Africa. We seek a motivated and professional individual to implement effective conservation actions in support of the Drakensberg Project under the auspices of the South African region of the African Crane Conservation Programme (ACCP). The Drakensberg is home to all three crane species of South Africa and is considered a globally significant area for crane conservation. Through conservation action, the Drakensberg Project aims to build a resilient landscape that will benefit both biodiversity and those who share the landscape with cranes. The ACCP is a partnership between the Endangered Wildlife Trust and the International Crane Foundation.

Accountant

The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT), one of the largest Biodiversity Conservation NGOs in South Africa is seeking a motivated and professional individual to manage the finances of various conservation programs as well as assist with certain financial accounting functions for the Head Office team. The role will cover monthly and annual reporting, including producing donor reports, assisting with donor audits as well as supporting the finance team with the annual financial audit. The role is a key governance role to ensure projects and procurement spend is in line with budget and according to donor requirements.
