On 3 March 2020, Uganda joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Wildlife Day. As part of the activities to commemorate World Wildlife Day 2020, the government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, recognised people and institutions that have made unique and significant contributions to the sustainable conservation and development of wildlife resources in Uganda.
Late last year, the EWT took the leap and made the move to our forever home in Midrand, in the heart of Giant Bullfrog country. It was only fitting that we would celebrate this exciting new chapter by launching our new home in the build up to Leap Day.
We were pleased to be part of a very special evening on 4 December 2019, aimed at celebrating International Cheetah Day, which takes place each year on that date, where we showcased the work being done by the EWT’s Cheetah Conservation Project. This event was generously hosted by PwC South Africa, one of the primary sponsors of this work.
The EWT aims to safeguard the future of hundreds of threatened species through our local conservation activities, which will protect the unique biodiversity and landscapes, and support the development of sustainable livelihoods in the western Soutpansberg Mountains
A two-week field trip to Zambia during August 2019 provided the EWT’s Vultures for Africa Programme an opportunity to conduct the first Wildlife Poisoning Response Training workshop in the North Luangwa National Park to train rangers and other staff of the Park to effectively identify and respond to wildlife poisoning incidents when they happen in this part of the Luangwa Valley.
World Lion Day is celebrated in August each year, and we’ve certainly had something to roar about in 2019.
