The EWT Biodiversity DataBank
One of the EWT’s most valuable assets is our Biodiversity DataBank. The DataBank is the central storage location for all ecological and spatial information within the EWT and its numerous partners. It includes datasets covering species, habitats, and threats to wildlife and humans. The EWT’s Conservation Planning and Science Unit maintains our centralised Biodiversity DataBank so that the data is accessible and safely stored online.
Data Sharing
Data-sharing allows researchers and conservation practitioners to expedite the conversion of primary research results into knowledge, products, and procedures to improve conservation initiatives. We believe environmental data should be made as widely and freely available while safeguarding confidentiality and proprietary rights.
If you require biodiversity data held by the EWT for use in Conservation Planning, Research, or Environmental Impact Assessments, please click here and fill in the data-sharing request form. Note that requests for data can take one to four weeks to process, depending on the volume of data requested.
In addition to EWT-produced datasets, we work with external partners to collect, collate, manage, and share regional biodiversity datasets. The EWT is an Associate Participant Node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). A GBIF Participant node is tasked with coordinating a network of institutions that produce, manage, and use biodiversity data. Nodes are committed to sharing and mobilising biodiversity data to support biodiversity-related science and decision-making for sustainable development.
