The Mammal Red List forms part of a series of national Red List projects including assessments of butterflies, reptiles, and birds.
Building on the 2004 Mammal Red List coordinated by the EWT, the 2016 revised assessments were based on data and expertise from over 400 experts. The project was funded via SANBI (through a grant by the Norwegian Government for building capacity for conducting assessments in the southern African region), the EWT, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE), E Oppenheimer & Son, and De Beers Group of Companies. We have begun revising the 2016 Mammal Red List.
